Initially this outfit of the day post started off as a typical behind the scenes into my actual day. As a fashion marketing professional and fashion consultant I am constantly on the go from my 9-5, after work client meetings, sourcing, styling, events, etc. I am literally ALWAYS on the go which means I usually carry a big bag that can fit all types of things including a change of shoes.
On this particular day after the 9 to 5 grind I had to meet a client for a fitting then head to an event for a friend. I literally went back and forth from Brooklyn to the City a few times that day. I started the day off with my favorite black cut out booties with a block heel because they are chic and comfortable. However, I wasn’t sure if I would stay in them all day or if I would want to take my outfit a step further for the event that night with my silver metallic heels.
So of course I had to bring them along for the day.
As I was getting some snaps in with photographer Kelly West, two ladies came up to me and asked if I was Cookie Lyon from the hit show Empire aka the beautiful Taraji P. Henson. Obviously, we all know Cookie is a character so I told them her real name and confirmed that I was not her. However, in the moment I had to laugh because I actually do get mistaken for her a lot more than you would think. Personally, I do not think we look alike, but she is gorgeous so I take it as a compliment.
Anyways, later that night at the event I was also told the same thing and I realized that my attire for the day kind of resembled something Cookie would wear on Empire; hence the title of this post. Cookie is known for making a statement with her pieces. Her looks usually entail a great pair of pants or a fitted dress with a statement coat, hat and a pair of shoes to bring the look together. As a finishing touch she is often seen in a dark or pop color lipstick.
