On Tuesday night I attended, How To Be Single private screening event, hosted by Angie Martinez. The movie features Dakota Johnson, Rebel Wilson, Alison Brie and Leslie Mann. Prior to the screening I saw the trailer a few times and mentally noted that I needed to check it out; so when the opportunity came about I was all in. My favorite London gal pal and I switched up our usual catch up over dinner and delicious cocktails routine and opted to do this instead. We headed to the Roxy Hotel for what was sure to be an interesting night.
So let’s break the night down…
The Arrival
The Roxy hotel (formerly known as the Tribeca Grand Hotel) was extremely charming. The scene was super inviting from the pleasantness of the staff to the soft tunes in the background. We made our way downstairs to the Django room to check in for the event. Then decided to head to the bar in the Jazz lounge for some Prosecco and girl chat while we waited for it to start.
The Reception
Once we made our way back to the Django room we were greeted with an array of delicious appetizers and an open bar which we obviously indulged in. We tried a handful of things such as a delicious tuna tartare on top of fried seaweed dish, tasty crab balls, an amazing slider and a refreshing asparagus option. All of it was worthy trying. We also had the pleasure of having light conversation with those in attendance and checking out the fun photo booth by PodPix.
After the reception we were escorted to this quaint theatre inside the hotel were our favorite NY radio personality, Angie Martinez, greeted us.

Even though I adore Rebel Wilson and Leslie Mann I was a bit unsure of what to expect, but after laughing seconds into the movie starting I knew this was going to be a good one. How to be Single was a perfect balance of comedy while touching on some heavy topics. The movie illustrated the thought process and lessons we all go through when we are single. Whether you are newly single, prefer to be single, or not single by choice. It highlights the expectations we have and place on ourselves that seem kind of ludicrous when you look at the larger picture. After all, as much as we plan, life really throws you curve balls that are unforeseen so the chances of our expectations panning out all the time can vary when you are “looking for love.” Overall, I think the biggest takeaway from the movie was understanding one’s self love and how to balance that in a relationship if you choose to be in one. Sometimes we feel like we are going to lose the person we are to be with someone and sometimes we feel like it is mandatory to lose ourselves to make that work. There are times when we refuse to do both so we opt out of being with someone to retain that self identity. It can great tricky. There are times when the balance can and will always shift, but remembering your self love and how that is portrayed is a huge thing.
It was a really fun, funny and fitting movie to see with my girl pal. I totally recommend checking this out. You may realize a thing or two.
