The Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Benefit, also known as the Met Ball, kicked off last night and the red carpet sizzled. The theme this year, China: Through the Looking Glass, provided our favorite celebs with the opportunity to get creative.
Last year, I did a recap on my top looks here, but this year I am giving out Met Ball awards. To be honest, there were a lot of great looks, but almost no one knocked the theme out of the park for me. Almost No One! Nevertheless, many brought their A game and it is my duty to acknowledge that.
Queen of the Met 2015
Obviously Rihanna! We all know I am bias here, but the reality is Rihanna hit the carpet and said “The queen has arrived” with no words. Everything about this says Chinese princess with drama and I am here for it. This gorgeous Guo Pei Couture yellow fur adorned with a gold headpiece and pearls is royalty at its finest. Who better to wear it than Rihanna? Rightfully she owned this as she always does.
Royalty!
Beautiful in Nude Met 2015
At first, I was not a fan of Bey in this custom embellished Givenchy gown, but the more I reviewed this gown the more I fell for it. Clearly, she nailed the through the looking glass part, but there is something soft and beautiful about this gown. It resembles a beautiful chinese garden to me. Am I being too abstract with this? Possibly, but once that image clicked for me the dress turned into something else. Well done @TyTryone!
Vision of Art Met 2015
Solange BRINGS it every time! Dressed in a circular Giles dress with Cartier jewels she made it very clear that art took center stage. This look is the most out of the box to me. She’s an interesting, yet beautiful vision.
The Ball Gown of the Met 2015
I am still on the fence about this floral pink Prada gown. Kerry looks beautiful no doubt about it, but there is something here that does not do it for me. However, the gown is pretty. I really wish she would have worn green or purple semi pointed satin pumps with a matching clutch. It would have pulled things together more for me.
Allison Williams also takes home this award because she went big for this event in Giambtattista Valli. Tulle and red all in a gown? Her dress is one big party done tastefully.
Reigning Champ of the Met 2015
Although, queen Ri Ri served it on the carpet (HAND DOWNS) Sarah is the reigning champ. She is the mother hen of all Met Gala’s when it comes to the red carpet slay (aside from Anna Wintour, but she’s in another category altogether). SJP hit the carpet, PhilipTreacy headpiece first, and basically said in a custom H&M dress, “I’m here”. The slay is real and very appropriate for the theme no?
Little Princess of the Met 2015
If Rihanna is queen Ri and SJP is queen hen, then the darling Zendaya is the little sister of them both. I adored this Fausto Puglisi look and I thought it was a beautiful interpretation. So pretty @luxurylaw
Cape Goddess Met 2015
Janella Monae never disappoints with her black and white ensembles and this CAPE is EVERYTHING. Seriously, she’s cool girl fly without even trying to be. Kudos @Stylememaeve
Fan Bingbing also gets a met ball for Cape Goddess because she stunned on the red carpet in a Christoper Bu dress and cape. This cape is breathtaking no?
Pretty Girl Met 2015
Even though she is giving me more spanish princess than Chinese flower, this custom Vera Wang gown is stunning on Selena Gomez. So pretty!
Structured Beauty Met 2015
Everything about this classic white Carolina Herrera gown says “Boss Status”. Zhang Ziyi gave us opulence here alongside the designer herself.
Mayor of the Met 2015
No surprise that Anna Wintour is the fashion mayor. She gracefully adorned herself in Chanel Couture. Classic perfection!
Fashionable Twins Met 2015

The fashion industry’s favorite twins looked like dark angels on the carpet. No explanation is necessary here. They just do what they do so very well.
Well that concludes the awards of the night. Overall, the Met Gala red carpet never disappoints. China: Through the Looking Glass will be on display at The Metropolitan Museum of Art from May 7th – August 16th, 2015. Add it to your MUST SEE list.

May 5, 2015 at 12:28 pm (10 years ago)I like the capes and the white dresses. I like the simplistic and detailed aspect of each of these outfits. Although I’m not much into the nude look Beyonce rocked, Rihanna out totally screamed queen. 🙂
