Not sure how any Pretty Little Liars fans I have here on the blog, but I am a die hard fan. Maybe die hard is pushing it, but I’ve definitely been on the PLL band wagon since inception. Anyways, the series that we love (for all my fellow fans) is coming to an end and they are going out as adults…LITERALLY!
The show premiered last night on FreeForm (formerly known as ABCFamily – I know I don’t get it either) with the liars all grown up. Some completed college, one didn’t and they are back in Rosewood for more shenanigans. I am not sure if any of you got to read the article on Fashionista (here) giving an overview of what the new style will be this season, but it was pretty informative. Former PLL costume designer Mandiline (who I adore) wrapped up things during the mid-season finale and for the 6B comeback, the show recruited Hart of Dixie costume designer, Cameron Dale. I’ve never seen Hart of Dixie, but from the article I totally understood the aesthetic Cameron was going for with each other. After watching the first episode I would have to say she is off to a good start. Each PLL character looks like an evolved version of what their high school style was, which is great. You can tell there is a cohesion between their personalities and their new adult looks.
Hannah Marin (Ashley Benson) is the epitome of a fashionista as she navigates through the fashion world in cosmopolitan cities, Her latest style direction is fashion forward, chic and lust worthy Very luxe brand driven with pieces similar to Zac Posen and Gucci. Afterall, she works for a fashion house.
Aria Montgomery (Lucy Hale) resides in Boston and works in publishing. She is still the same edgy, flirty and unexpected fashionista, but in a more subtle way. Her print mixing has been turned down, but we still see boldness in each piece. Heavy similarities to a Nasty Gal and Topshop Bombshell.
Spencer Hastings (Troian Bellisario) is living the lobbyist life in good ol’ Washington DC and her style is exactly what we thought Spencer’s style would be post 5 years. Very sophisticated, structured and slightly boring compared to her fashion counterparts, but still fashionable. Think Rag & Bone and Theory as opposed to Nasty Gal and Zac Posen.
Emily Fields (Shay Mitchell) has the least style progression out of the bunch, but Emily’s character has always been basic and effortless. Residing in the sunny state, Emily’s adult attire consists of denim, tees, boots and kicks. Simple and comfortable!
The style direction on the show has always been on par with the storyline so I an excited to see how the season will progress.
