Last night the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) awards took place in New York City. It is a night that designers, editors, stylists and celebrities hit the red carpet to honor amazing style and talent. I was especially looking forward to this night because our favorite bad girl, Rihanna, received the Fashion Icon award and we were all in anticipation to see what she would present to us on the red carpet (you already know she made an entrance, per her norm). There were some stunning looks and some mediocre ones, but all in the name of style. The below are a few looks that I wanted to feature so let’s get into it.
Of course Rihanna channeled Josephine Baker (with a bad girl twist) on the red carpet in a crystal-embellished sheer gown, headpiece and fur shawl (to hide her lady parts) designed by Adam Selman. I’m sure everyone has a lot to say about this look, but here’s what I have to say: Am I shocked? No! Did she look gorgeous even though she’s practically nude? Yes! Is she making a statement? Definitely! Would I ever in a million years where this? Not outside my house; however, this is EXACTLY why Rihanna is who she is. She’s the type of girl that takes fashion risks everyday and regardless of how we feel or even if we agree, to her, she’s making a statement and it has us talking about it. I’ve said it a million times, Rihanna could wear a paper bag or a fishing net and make it look like art. I can’t be mad at that. Thoughts?
I adore Solange. She really cannot do any wrong to me. She dazzled in a Calvin Klein number giving me new age Dreamgirls. Fabulous no?
Mira Duma is seriously one of my favorite fashionistas. She looked incredible in this neutral piece with embellishment. Gorgeous!
Jennifer Hudson looked very chic in this KaufmanFranco number. You really can’t ever go wrong with black, like EVER. However, I would have opted for more dazzling shoes or even a pop of color, but overall she looks good.
I adore Emmy Rossum and I am not just saying that because I am a loyal fan of Shameless and J.Mendel respectively. Emmy, last I heard, styles herself and she always looks beautiful. This beautiful J.Mendel piece is no exception. The color, in my opinion, is radiant on her and I love the styling from head to toe. Just a vision in Chartreuse.
I think I have a slight obsession with Chanel Iman. She looks beautiful in whatever she wears and again you can’t ever go wrong with black.
Heidi looked like she was ready for summer and embracing it with this beautiful Donna Karan gown. I like this on her.
Coco Rocha gave us face in this beautiful number. Loved the headpiece.
Chrissy Teigen is just beautiful and this color looked amazing on her. I really adored this Rachel Roy dress on her.
Blake Lively, channeled her inner 60s in Michael Kors. This is cute, but I definitely expected more from her. She wowed me at the Cannes Film Festival (here) and although this event is a lot casual than that I would have loved to see more of a pop. However, she still looks good.
Sophia Bush looked chic and adorable in this floral cut out number. I’m not crazy about the statement necklace, but I loved how flirty she looked in this with the pop of color on her lips to compliment her look.
I have a special place in my heart for Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. I may not always agree with their looks, but they are true fashionistas. That is all!
I have to be honest and say that I was not crazy about this look from the beautiful Lupita. The Suno crop top and culottes are beautiful pieces. I absolutely love the print and how it looked on her, but it definitely does not wow me and I think it’s the hair and makeup. From the neck up I am thrown. Maybe if her look was styled differently, it would have been a winner for me. Maybe!
Jessica Stam gave us face with this menswear inspired look. So chic. I loved this!
There you have it, not all, but most of my must-see looks from the red carpet. Whose look did you like the most?
