Finding the perfect coat can be challenging because there are so many shapes and styles to choose from. After choosing the perfect shape and style then we have to consider functionality and of course purpose. It is easy to feel frustrated and clueless when it comes to finding the perfect fit. For me, coat shopping is ALWAYS a process because I have to research, prioritize and try on a variety before finalizing my selection.
Here is a quick guide to help alleviate the stress a fashionista can endure from trying to find the perfect coat for this fall/winter season.
Guide Breakdown
Boyish: For a boyish frame adding volume and dimension enhances your silhouette especially with a few details.
Busty: When it comes to a busty silhouette coats that appropriately drape the top and define the center are must haves.
Petite: Tailored and waist length are two tips for a more compact and petite frame.
Pear: When your hips hold the most weight enhancing your assets by wearing a bomber style.
Apple: A coat that covers all proportions is a great fit for removing the focus from the middle such as a duster coat.
Hourglass: Rope coats work great here as it does with a busty frame, but moving towards a casual and comfortable style like a parka will flatter the hourglass silhouette.
The 6 styles illustrated above are not the only styles that apply to these 6 silhouettes; however, they are styles that frame those silhouettes nicely. There are a lot of different body types, but a lot of women fall into the categories mentioned above and for the purpose of this post that is a good starting point for inspiration and coat research.
Thus far, this season I racked up on the leather sleeve parka from Boohoo (post coming) which fits really well. I am still thinking about the next style I am going to add to my coat wardrobe.
