This season the shirt dress look has been my go-to for classic chicness. Dresses are the most convenient pieces to wear and by incorporating a collar the dress easily becomes a must have investment piece. Gone are the days when button downs were considered boring and now we can take such a classic modified piece and really make it our own.

Here are three ways I love to wear my shirt dresses…
Using a shirt dress (or any dress) as a separate instead of a one-piece is a smart move. For this particular look the dress is used as a top with a pop of detail under the sleek mini skirt. I am obsessed with burgundy so paring this look with these over-the-knee boots took the look up a notch for me. Since this is a button down, a minimizer bra (like this Wacoal option) is a must wear and I wanted to add some print to the look; hence why this Tory Burch tote is a great addition. Lastly, a wrap sweater and tribal necklace completed this look down to a T. Sophistication with some edge.

Adding a layer to a shirt such as a mini dress, vest or sweater will definitely give the look a different statement. I love to layer and I love anything mustard so I thought this shirt dress would be trendy with a cable knit pullover sweater. Top the look off with statement accessories like a colorblock tote, peep toe all black booties with detail, a statement necklace and a fedora to complete edgy chic appeal.

Simple and sleek is the epitome of this third look. Pairing a shirt dress with a long line vest is a great day to night option. I added some colorblock here with ankle strap pumps and switched the color up with some red accessories. To complete the look, I paired it with this gold tote; however, adding a clutch would fit nicely for night time attire.
